The 42-bed unit focuses on post cath, stemi, vascular surgery, open heart surgery, and IABP, with a healthy influx of patients that would traditionally be in a medical ICU (DKA, respiratory failure, GI bleed, post-code, renal failure). Our Registered Nurses integrate standards of care into our daily practice that includes: commitment, effective communication, customer service, responsiveness, sense of ownership and positive attitudes. _What does a Registered Nurse in an Intensive CareStep Down Unit Do?_ As a Registered Nurse in the ICUSD with Woodland Heights Medical Center, you will spend your time--- _Job Duties:_ Evaluating assigned patients and plans, implementing and documenting nursing care. Assisting the physicians during examinations and procedures. Performing various patient tests and administering medications within the scope of the practice of the RN. Promoting patients--- independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients, and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-car skills. You will rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Also a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically you will report to a manager or head of your unitdepartment. _What---s In It For You:_ Joining the WHMC team gives you an unmatched experience of being a part of something larger, growth potential, full benefits package, competitive salary, etc. _Which Qualifications Do You Need?_ In order to set you up for success, you need the basics of--- Associate---s Degree in Nursing Certified as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas Also you must have current BLS, ACLS, and PALS Familiarity with a variety of the field---s concepts, practices, and procedures One year of medical experience as a clinical nurse, or completion of an RN residency program NIHSS (can be completed after hire) CPI training or within 6 months of hire _Working Hours:_ PRN 2:1 Patient Ratio (ICU), 4:1 (SD) _Who We Are:_ Established in 1919, Woodland Heights Medical Center was Lufkin---s first hospital.
